WHAT IS FIT ZONE? Y-FIT Zone training is a specialized group fitness program combining heart-rate based interval training with the efficiency of functional strength training.  Participants will get faster results and reduce risk of plateauing by using TRX, Kettlebells, Medicine Balls, Rope, Tires, compound strength movements with overall cardio and core conditioning. Polar Heart  Software will complement this Y-FIT Zone training model by providing accountability, structure, and support to help participants achieve their fitness goals.  Polar inspired heart rate straps will accurately track  participants during the group workouts. By tracking their heart rate through the Polar Club score board, members can enhance their workouts and goals by reaching their ideal training zone to elicit the best physiological response.

   What should I expect when I  take the class? Led by Director Rikki Bains and other skilled instructors, participants will use a variety of NEW equipment recently added to the Lakewood Family YMCA, including Technogym Skill Mills, rowers, TRX suspension trainers, slam balls, ropes, flip tires and free weights in the Functional Training Room.  In addition each participant will have access to Polar Coach where the instructor will meet with each participant bi-weekly to discuss their performance data, nutrition and activity logs, to ensure they are accelerating their goals in and out of the gym. This will be a higher intensity level class, however as with all classes at the Y, we will always offer modifications for members who are injured or have health considerations.

Group exercise classes are highly motivating and a great way to make friends while getting an excellent workout. We are proud to offer 86 classes per week, varying from stretch and relaxation yoga classes to high-impact, high-energy kick boxing classes. We also offer classes designed primarily for seniors or those requiring a low to no impact workout. No registration or sign-up is needed to participate in a class, just show up ready to sweat!
