Adult Swim Lessons
Swim lessons are not just for children anymore.
All of our YMCA's offer lessons for adults.
Instruction is given by trained instructors who
realize the needs of adult students.
Available at all YMCA's with a pool
Water Fitness
Get the same benefits of aerobics while using the
resistance and buoyancy of the water. Great for
pregnant women, seniors and people suffering
from knee injuries, as well as those with arthritis.

Bellflower Aquatic Center's - INDOOR HEATED POOL!!
Junior Lifeguards
Experience the challenges involved in beach, pool and waterpark lifeguarding.
Individuals ages 9-17 years of age with a minimum of Fish level swimming skills
are invited to join. This YMCA program includes: swim training, conditioning
and endurance, personal water safety, rescue skills training, water games, first
aid, CPR, snorkeling, character development, weekly trips and Fun, Fun, Fun!
Available at the Los Altos and Lakewood YMCAs
Swim Club (Ages 8 to 16 years of age)
Year-Round afterschool program of swim
conditioning training and fun.
Available through the Lakewood and Fairfield YMCA's
First 5 LA Swim Lessons
Lessons for children 6 month - 2 years (with parents) and
3 - 5 year olds.
Fee based on sliding scale.

Swim Instructor
Progressive Swim Lessons
The YMCA has offered swim instruction for over
100 years. Today we teach approximately 5000
children collectively each summer. The YMCA
program emphasizes the development of the
whole person. Incorporated in the program are
physical development, the ability to solve
problems and to accept responsibility for choices
about their behavior. The YMCA swim instructors
are trained in aquatic instruction and skills
development.
Levels of Instruction
Skippers (Ages 6 months to 3 years of age)
A water adjustment class for parents and their young children.
Pike (Ages 3 to 5 years of age)
Sets the stage for the water experience.
Eel (Ages 3 to 5 years of age)
For children without fear of putting their faces in
the water and can propel themselves five feet
unassisted.
Ray (Ages 3 to 5 years of age)
This class emphasizes stroke development for
children able to propel themselves fifteen feet
unassisted.
Polliwog (Ages 6 to 12 years of age)
Older beginners will gain confidence in the water.
Guppy (Ages 6 to 12 years of age)
Advanced beginners will learn front crawl and
begin rotary breathing.
Minnow (Ages 6 to 12 years of age)
Intermediate swimmers will learn back crawl and
explore water sports.
Fish & Flying Fish (Ages 6 to 13 years of age)
Advanced Intermediate swimmers learn water
sports, breaststroke, and underwater activities.
Shark (Ages 6 to 14 years of age)
Advanced swimmers refine their swimming skills
while exploring other aquatic activities.
