Day Camp Programs for Youth K-6

At the YMCA we know as concerned parents, you want to know that the day camp or child care program in which you entrust your child is operated safely and properly.

With the YMCA, you are participating in programs you can count on, not just for good supervision and safety, but for personal growth of your child as well...

We work hard to select leaders who will be positive role models for your child, who have a sincere interest in each child's experience and who have demonstrated responsibility, maturity and reliability. The interview process is a thorough one.

Beyond safety and good supervision, the YMCA believes that special positive and growth-filled opportunities await every child who attends Y-Camp. In addition to gaining an appreciation of nature and forming a better understanding of one's self and values, Y-Camp participants learn:

New skills and gain confidence in individual abilities

How to get along with others Independence and self-reliance skills in and away from the home setting

How to build leadership skills

How to incorporate the CHARACTER values into everyday activities:

SPLASHERS entering K-6th grade

Add lots of water to the program and you have...Splashers! In addition to daily activities such as arts & crafts, organized sports and field trips, Splashers offers campers an opportunity for kids to learn or enhance their swimming skills through swim lessons. Lessons are given four times a week. Each lesson is thirty minutes long and taught by a certified swim instructor.

EXPLORERS entering K-6th grade

Explorer campers have tons of fun in the sun! Campers participate in character development activities, arts & crafts, organized sports and field trips. Counselors provide a safe and fun environment, while encouraging campers to engage in a wide variety of activities. Explorer camp takes place at our off site location. We are located at Buffum Elementary School.

X-TREME TEENS entering 7th-9th grade

It is our belief that teens succeed when given the opportunity to make their own choices. We allow the teens in our program to use the buddy system (groups of 4 or more) when going on trips. They are asked to check in with counselors at designated times and locations and are given strict rules for check-in guidelines. If these rules are not followed they may lose certain privileges, as their safety is extremely important to us. Our goal is to teach them self-assurance and responsibility.

One scheduled overnight trip specifically for X-treme Teens will take place in August. Dinner and breakfast will be provided, but please send disposable lunches with your teen for both days. A list of items to bring and more information will be provided on the backside of the X-treme Teen calendar prior to the overnight trip. Please see the X-treme Teen Director with questions.
